The Gift you Share
In response to the prompt by Singledust at GoDogGo Cafe.
For the record, this isn’t the best gift I give my friends (I really hope not). I’m probably not a great gift giver, because when I thought back, all I could remember were things I’d received. Also, this was the first thing I thought of that wouldn’t come across too sappy.
Hannah is back from a trip.
She hands me a little jar of jam as a souvenir,
Shy and anxious.
“Do you like it?”
We are at an outdoor festival
But I am not feeling well, so I choose to sit down under a shady tree.
My sisters look worried.
“Can we bring you anything?”
Visiting at my dad’s house
Our stepmother has never had daughters before now.
She is unsure about her new role.
“Can I take you all out for a girls’ day?”
To receive
To let someone else make you happy
Is also a gift
that must be the most unselfish attitude I have come across, thank you for sharing this special moment and gift

To receive well is a gift — so very true. I’d call it an art. You almost seem to need to have a talent for it.

Yeah, it’s always a little hard for me, I have to remind myself every time to let them be nice

I used to be that way myself. About twenty-five years ago.

It’s always better to give than receive.

awww ❤ hugs and loves to you! I hope you enjoy the lemon curd and Scottish preserves :3
My favorite part of gift-giving holidays is seeing how they react to the gift you give them. I like to try to get thoughtful and meaningful things, even if they are small.

My favorite part about gift giving is paying for your boba tea and then using that fact to extort pizza from you later in the day.
Also great big hugs and loves to you too!!!! Thanks for letting me extort you ❤

You’ve so eloquently expressed my dad’s philosophy that when someone wants to do something nice for you, let them. It means as much to them and maybe more so than it does to you! Now me being me and female, I would put qualifiers on that — it all depends on who’s giving, what they’re giving and what they’re expectations are in return. I sound old and jaded, I guess. Still, Sarah, what you wrote was lovely!

Haha, I learned by watching my dad refuse to let someone pay for dinner to the point of anger… My dad sounds different from yours 😂
