Inktober – On Time p5
Well, I’m learning some of my strengths and weaknesses in comic drawing. It’s difficult for me to think visually!
I like my pacing and plot and expressions. Lettering might be my favorite part next to the script. Panel layout is… Functional. Art is usually passable. World building is shit. Comparable strengths and weaknesses to my written stories, now that I think about it. But visual consistency? Nonexistent! Haha, he’s crossing a completely different street today, and he must have carpal tunnel bad because he keeps switching his briefcase from hand to hand. I accidentally put a jacket on him this page, fortunately it worked with the timing, though it was warm enough for him to wear just a polo yesterday…
Oh well. It’s my first multi-page comic. I’m cutting myself a lot of slack. Trying to force consistency breaks my brain and makes it not fun anymore. Right now I’m just happy to be telling a story.

I’m just so excited to actually be making a comic. This never happens! It’s kind of a breakthrough for me. I haven’t seriously drawn anything more than one page before. Learning lots, and taking any inked pages I can get.
I think I’ll do some washes to shade it after I finish all the panels. That’ll be fun.

On an unrelated note, I watched Vampire’s Kiss tonight. What a ridiculous and hilarious and wonderful and terrible movie. Nicolas Cage is really… something else.
Inktober – Happy Dog (6) and Echo (7)
Here’s a twofer.
Day 6: This is a dog, in case you couldn’t tell. Dogs are hilarious. I’m not sure if these fancy ink pens always look like cheap markers when used, or if it’s just my special artistic touch that’s transformed them.

Day 7: I was reading about Echo and Narcissus, looking at depictions of them, and got a little annoyed. So I wrote this.
Everyone remembers Narcissus
But what of Echo?
She didn’t matter to herself
So she doesn’t matter to others
Always a footnote in someone’s painting
A wan satellite
A visual element
Used to balance out and set off
Narcissus’s self-importance.
And I drew Echo (alone so Narcissus with his lesser problems and greater charisma can’t steal the limelight), in the process of dwindling away into the cliffs. Soon only her voice will be left.
