I had to google that. It returned “Hierarchical File System” and thought, dear Jesus this reference is WAY too techy for me to get.
Now that I found the right definition…
I KNOW, RIGHT???!!!!! I can’t believe it won over Lauri Kubuitsile’s story. Brain fall out.
Ugh, of course, but I also can understand it, which reveals a dark side of me, a side I seldom allow to be seen, seldom feel right about. Yet there are times when the horrible thing to do is the right thing to do. Times when the monster in us has to have its moment. We all understand this. We are none of us immune. This story reminded me of Coup de Grace by Ambrose Bierce. A similarly no-win, gut-wrenching situation. Bravo, Sarah. Well done!
The funny thing about this story is the nicest people I know who read it are the ones who are like, Ugh, been there! Maybe it’s just the nice ones who can admit it, haha.
Ambrose Bierce though!!! I love him so. I wouldn’t mind being like him, writerwise. I guess he’s had a strong influence on me, though I didn’t realize it until you brought him up.
Oh, Sarah!!!!!! HFS!

Painful and powerful. Quite astonishing to create a character who, in crisis mode, can look ahead with such awful clarity at the life thereafter.
Congratulations!
On a cheerier note, it was so nice to see you visit my blog and do a “catch-up” shower of likes. I really appreciated it.
Cheers!
