under the drill
Gadzooks! I forgot to post this morning!
the dentist
drills to shave the edge off my crown
raw
agony
blooms
I take myself away.
Relax into the pain.
everything I have learned
from years of dysmenorrhea
comes instantly into play.
Relax.
Relax more.
it’s that or wriggle
and you best not wriggle
under the drill.
it’s not very sensitive, is it? he says.
nooo… that hurt. I reply
and we all have a good laugh.
how strange we humans are.
how trusting.
I open my mouth again
and let him do it
ten more times.
I used to have a dentist who kept pretending it was almost over when it wasn’t. He seemed to think that lying would help…

GAH that would make me crazy! It’s like Chinese water torture or something…
My hygienist this go around believed in the surprising quick-like-a-band-aid method. She didn’t even give me time to go into my zen mode. For me, that was more brutal than the dentist’s drilling!

I get what you’re saying. The cleaning torture is the worst! It goes right through you, and when you crawl away you’re still rattling…
At least you got it over with. Live for the moment, don’t think about the next time… 🙂

Sometimes cleaning is fun, and I feel like one of those alligators with the little birds pecking away at my teeth. Imagining that helps 😀

Fun? That’s an… unusual… way of describing it 🙂

If it doesn’t hurt, it’s fun. If I get a mean hygienist or if my teeth are extra sensitive that day for some reason, it’s less fun.
